Global Intergenerational
Week 2023
24th - 30th April 2023

About the Week

Welcome to Global Intergenerational Week, a campaign aiming to connect everyone who is passionate about everything intergenerational. In its third year, the week looks to inspire individuals, groups, organisations, local/national government, and NGOs to fully embrace intergenerational practice, connecting people of all ages especially the younger and older generations.

DCU Age-Friendly is delighted to be hosting this webpage which is dedicated to promoting all the IG events in Ireland linked to the Global Intergenerational Week.

DCU is excited to link with the Executive Team leading Global Intergenerational Week which involves Generations Working Together (Scotland), Linking Generations Northern IrelandBridging the Generations, (Wales) and The Beth Johnson Foundation (England).

The campaign will celebrate good practice, ideas, moments, and opportunities local to us where different age groups come together, and intergenerational friendships can be formed! You can find more information about the events that will take place during this week down below!

Visit the Generations Working Together website to find out about all the different countries that will be participating and the events they will be hosting.

Monday 25 April at 3:30pm and Tuesday 26 April at 3:30pm
Venues:
14 Henrietta Street Museum
Join us for a very special in-person Culture Club as part of Global Intergenerational Week. Grandparents and grandchildren come along to 14 Henrietta Street to hear about the games played in the tenements, chat about the games you used to play and get a chance to play some games together!
Event includes exploration of the museum, taking inspiration from many of the stories we have gathered and present at 14 Henrietta Street about the games on the street and in the house where families and children lived together in the days before the internet.
Help bring the pastimes of days gone by back to life for young imaginations, while you learn and discover more about each other’s lives, all accompanied by tea (or juice) and biscuits.
Please note this event is for grandparents and grandchildren, no single adults allowed.
If you have any questions please contact cultureclub@dublincitycouncilculturecompany.ie

Reconnecting: The importance of community for Carers of people with Dementia

Tuesday the 26th at 6pm

Looking after a loved one with Dementia can be a difficult job, with the majority of responsibility falling to a single person.  Carers can find themselves struggling to provide care for their loved one and becoming increasingly isolated from their families, friends and community.  Through user stories we present an honest overview of the unmet needs and experiences of carers with the current care services and the risk of loneliness and isolation.  Through a small but meaningful change to an existing care service we show the importance of social engagement and support for carers, and that impactful and meaningful service solutions don’t have to cost the earth!
